Creating the next generation of jobs

I came across a real interesting ad in this month’s Harvard Business Review asking for applications for funding, applicable to a broad range of privately-led projects that will build a stronger, knowledge-based economy and create good, well-paying jobs for Ontario.

This is pretty amazing stuff. Ontario has set up a Next Generation of Jobs Fund.  According to their website, it’s a “five-year, $1.15 billion strategy to help innovative companies grow and create well-paying sustainable jobs for today’s workforce and for the next generation of Ontario’s highly skilled workers.”

What’s more amazing is that they are going around the world asking for the most creative and entrepreneurial people to apply for money.

Perhaps this is just what New Zealand needs. Companies that are creating the jobs of the future currently either relocate to the US or get bought out by overseas interests.

What a pity…
